As we continue to climb our way through the ever-evolving
world of internationalization, international education business
offices must reform our practices to navigate the changing
landscape. At Louisiana State University (LSU), the pandemic
provided a rare opportunity to evaluate the efficacy and
suitability of existing revenue streams, as well as dream big
about new opportunities. In this session, we will take a look at
LSU International Programs’ previous sources of revenue to
discuss what worked and what did not. We will then discuss
the department’s strategic approach of capitalizing on existing
revenue streams and developing and implementing new
revenue streams. Some of the themes addressed during the
session will include setting priorities, bringing ideas to fruition,
and making initiatives tenable. We hope participants will gain
new ideas and, more importantly, ways in which to sustainably
bring them to life.

In this session we will review scholarship best practices and
discuss current challenges in finding and allocating scholarship
funding for students.

The University of Minnesota Twin Cities Campus has new
leadership and we may adjust the financial management model
of our units, for the first time in 15+ years, to better equip the
institution for future budget challenges. Help us re-examine our
financial model as we try to break down the silos of our units
into a more collaborative approach that would better support
new strategic goals. This session will provide the necessary
background information on our current model, describe the
“charge” we have been given by our new SIO, some initial
ideas from other UMN colleges, and finally an interactive
brainstorming session on lessons learned from the greater
HEIBO community. So bring your ideas!

many times there are no other finance managers at your institution to
help mentor you in your role. In this session, attendees will be
introduced to the different and unique background information
needed to better understand the business and financial aspects of
international education, learn, navigate, and master the role of the
BO. Topics that will be discussed in this session include, but are not
limited to: terminologies, organizational structures, different budget
models, funding sources, types of fees (inbound & outbound
students), other revenue streams, types of programs, program budget
development, enrollment, personnel, travel preparation, professional
development costs, risk management, building reserves, etc.
